OER Digital Storytelling

Digital storytelling has been described as a “new variant of storytelling” (Frazel, 9). It is a modern way of presenting stories using multimedia. Digital storytelling “uses personal digital technology to combine a range of media into a coherent narrative” (Ohler, 15). The final digital story may consist of written and spoken text, images (in a slideshow), short film clips, and is often accompanied by certain sounds or background music. As the research literature and our own ongoing research projects have shown, digital storytelling is not only fun and highly motivating for students, but can also be integrated into language teaching to fulfill different teaching purposes and promote different competences such as writing, speaking, interaction and multimodal competences (e.g. media literacy, visual literacy).
